PRICING & CONTRACTS

DRaaS pricing.

Compare public recovery contracts, cloud platform fees, and backup costs. See what each price covers and what to ask for in your own quote.

DRaaS pricing starts with what you need recovered, where it will run, and who will operate it. A replication fee, a managed recovery service, and a backup subscription buy different things. Use the public rates and government purchasing records below to understand the units, then ask providers to price the same recovery scope.

All amounts are USD. Contract examples retain their original dates and terms. They are individual purchases and spending limits, not a market average or an offer available to every buyer.

01 · Public purchasing records

What buyers have budgeted for recovery

These records show actual proposed or authorized commercial terms. Read the service scope alongside the amount: an application add-on is a different purchase from recovery for a county’s server environment. “Not to exceed” is an authorized ceiling, not proof of the amount ultimately spent.

IT systems and mainframe disaster recovery, including restoration, testing, and reporting. The monthly figure is the annual limit divided by 12. This is not a per-VM quote or a standard 11:11 price.

TIPS contract 220105
Full-term ceiling
Backup and recovery services for the Sheriff’s Office. The award covers the full stated term; it does not establish a uniform monthly invoice or a per-VM rate.
San Mateo County, CAPresidio · May 21, 2024Approved DRaaS agreement ↗Up to $1,635,289May 21, 2024–May 20, 2027
$45,424.69/month equivalent
Full-term ceiling
Cloud DRaaS replicating county servers to a geographically separate site. The monthly equivalent divides the three-year ceiling by 36. Without a verified VM count, it cannot support a per-VM benchmark.

The Mobile County source is an agenda, so its entries are labeled agenda rates. The other records above are resolutions or approved board items. None of these amounts has been adjusted for inflation or treated as a current vendor rate card.

02 · Platform fees

AWS and Azure: the service fee is one line

AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery

$0.028 per source-server hour

At 730 hours, the DRS fee is $20.44 per server, or $408.80 for 20 servers. Add staging storage, snapshots, replication compute, drill and recovery resources, applicable transfer, and the people operating recovery.

Azure Site Recovery

Per protected instance

The Site Recovery service fee is waived for an instance’s first 31 days. Storage, transactions, transfer, and recovery compute can still cost money. Check Microsoft’s calculator for the current rate in your region and purchasing agreement.

Official pricing pages checked October 30, 2026. The 730-hour month is an illustration. Neither platform fee includes a fully managed recovery service.

03 · Backup and software components

Read the license unit and the term

Guilford County’s September 2026 Rubrik renewal shows why a unit rate needs context. Its attached eGroup quote contains these two lines within a $248,856.67 hardware and software support package. They are backup-platform renewal costs; managed failover is not established by these line items.

04 · Build a comparable quote

Price three operating scenarios

Our recommendation: give each provider the same workload list, protected data size, change rate, recovery location, RTO and RPO targets, and responsibility for tests, failover, and failback. Then request these three totals.

Normal month

Keeping recovery ready

Replication or backup subscription, retained storage, reserved capacity, connectivity, monitoring, and managed support.

Scheduled test

Proving applications work

Normal monthly charges plus incremental test compute, storage, licensing, provider labor, and application validation. Show included allowances.

14 days in recovery

Running and returning

Normal charges plus incremental recovery resources, transfer, incident labor, and failback. Identify included days and charges that stop during failover.

A scope you can send to providers

“Please quote 20 VMs and 4 TB of protected data, with recovery targets and operating responsibilities agreed before pricing. Show onboarding, a normal month, one eight-hour application recovery test, and 14 days running in recovery followed by failback. State retention, storage measurement, included labor, minimum term, annual increases, and exclusions.”

Example request only. Replace the workload and data figures with your environment; they do not imply a price or a guaranteed recovery target.

How to use these numbers

We selected examples from public agendas, resolutions, and attached quotes with identifiable service scope, amounts, and terms. County records link directly from each example. Contract ceilings, recurring rates, setup fees, and calculated monthly equivalents retain separate labels. We do not infer missing workload counts, average unrelated purchases, or treat the most recent research date as the contract date.

Managed providers price a defined environment. Compare recovery responsibilities and use the buyer’s checklist alongside this page. A lower quote is useful only when it covers the applications, testing, and support you need.
